Come meet Carlos Delgadillo of Exotic Builds on Saturday May 5th at Chicago Northside Mini Maker Faire!
We had a chance to chat with Carlos and his plans for the Faire. I asked Carlos about his work and he explained: “we make custom tanks for all kind of animals including green tree boas, frogs, or anything with extra care.” The tanks are designed for the special needs of the animal, such as if it requires lots of humidity or lots of dryness.
I asked him how he started his business Carlo’s Custom Pet Enclosures. He explained that it had started out as a hobby five years ago. He had visited the Shedd and saw some amazing dart frogs and felt inspired. He ended up doing research and made a tank especially for dart frogs. That’s how it all began. Good reminder to all those makers out there: your passion for making can become your career.
I asked him about popular misconceptions of the animals he works with. He noted that poison dart frogs are not poisonous in captivity. Their poison is based on what they eat in the wild so definitely stay clear of them there!
For Chicago Northside Mini Maker Faire, he plans on bringing several animals and their habitats to show attendees. Carlos wants folks to come and learn about the animals and their ideal habitats. Many of them require simple care as long as the humidity keeps in the tank.
